Yesterday (or sometime the night before) my motorcycle was stolen. It's quite an odd feeling when something so large is missing. Called it in when I got to work and filed a report. Then this afternoon I get a call from a neighbor and they've found my bike about a block away. The ignition wires have been cut. I call the police again to let them know it's been found. They ask me to wait with the bike and they'll be right by to "release" it to me. Just a few more minutes and they'll be here soon I think to myself. Minutes turns into an hour and a half later. Freezing. Brrrrr. I flag down an officer from a block away or so who had no idea I was waiting, and apologized that no-one had showed up for over an hour or so. She handed me a "release" receipt and wished me better luck. Got some neighbors to help me push the bike back home.
The day was almost over by then but I still had time to swing by Macworld Expo and check out a few things, and then walk to a dinner organized by Niall Kennedy at Chaat Cafe and met up with a friendly bunch (Update: dinner photos).
Having had a frustrating past two days dealing with the motorcycle missing and reappearing, I decide to head to Ritual Roasters to see if I can get some work done and see some friends. Met up with Kevin Cheng, Chris Messina and a few new friends from out of town. Good coffee here as always. I picked up coffee again at SXSW , then managed to drop it again this past summer, then picked it up again for Web Essentials 05. All the habits, headaches, etc. aside, it turns out, productivity pressures keep bringing me back. Or maybe it is merely overcommitting. Still looking for that balance. And tonight, I'm still shivering, after being stuck out in the cold 1.5+ hours.
