And finally here are a couple of example uses of VoteLinks — where all you do is add a rel="vote-for"
or rel="vote-against"
to your <a href="..">
hyperlinks to indicate explicitly that you agree/disagree or vote for or against, respectively.
I just added a really tiny new feature to Technorati, inspired somewhat by the W3C Validator's Check referer links that everyone has on their blogs.
Well now you can add a Technorati Cosmos referer link to your blog, and clicking it will automatically do a Technorati Cosmos of your blog (or whatever other page you put the link on).
http://technorati.com/cosmos/referer.html
For example: Technorati Cosmos of this page.
Now it's just that much easier to embed a link to do a Technorati Cosmos of the current page, whether it is your home page, blog, permalink page for a post etc.
Geek note: this feature was written with one line of PHP, until Ian found an edge case for which I had to write a few more lines.
I'm here at Web 2.0, participating Lobbycon style, and will probably be continuing to do so over the next few days.
Reminder: tomorrow night Technorati is hosting a Hackathon at our new headquarters. I'm using maps.yahoo.com because Aytek asked me why did I use Mapquest last time I blogged about it. Answer: a) because I just copy and pasted the link from Sifry's post, and b) because Mapquest has cleaner URLs. See for yourself:
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?
ed=3drYJ.p_0ToIAFh_2em01o7jJBw-&
csz=San+Francisco%2C+CA+94107
What is all that "ed=3drYJ.p..."
crap? There is no reason for that junk to be in the URL. Clean it up Yahoo.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?
address=665+3rd+St.&
zipcode=94107&submit=Get+Map
Much better. Although I would point out that (emphasis mine): mapquest.com/ maps/ map.adp... submit=Get+Map
looks like four times as many mentions of "map" as should be needed. Why not just something like:
http://mapquest.com/?a=665+3rd+St.&z=94017
?
or
http://maps.yahoo.com/?a=665+3rd+St.&z=94017
?
Getting back to the point. Technorati Hackathon tomorrow night 8pm. Web designers and developers included of course. Spots are almost full, please RSVP. Curious? Unsure? Not in the area? Checkout out the IRC channel irc:irc.freenode.net#technorati.
What will be talking about and coding?
A few things:
Did I mention the pizza?
